Tech Valley High School (TVHS) is a regional public high school that integrates technology, business acumen and immersive science, technology, engineering and mathematical (STEM) education in a project-based learning environment.
Founded in 2007 through a collaboration between two Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) — Questar III and Capital Region BOCES — Tech Valley High School is a regional resource for propelling education into the 21st century.
Tech Valley High School teaches through project-based learning, an approach that creates hands-on, student-centered activities out of every lesson.
Located on the campus of the Colleges of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at the SUNY Polytechnic Institute, TVHS is uniquely poised to provide its students exposure to scientists, researchers and other educational resources that enhance the school’s STEM curriculum.
In addition, one of the core tenets of the Tech Valley High education is its emphasis on including business, technology and community leaders in its classrooms to keep the school’s education grounded in the realities of the 21st century economy.
Those partnerships also open doors for students to embed with professionals in every field from science and engineering to public relations and management during a work-based learning activity held every February.
All eighth grade students can apply to Tech Valley High School. The only requirements for acceptance are that the eighth grade student meet with his/her middle school counselor to discuss his/her application, complete the application and submit it to their middle school counselor and attend a parent-student information session with their parent(s).
